Oh my goodness my absolute bugbear is people I am working with not taking notes! Yes, yes, yes I know it’s all iPads and Notebooks now and that’s fine, but sometimes the old pen and paper can be just awesome.

As long as the notes get taken I am happy!

It’s like a disease…………how on earth do people think they are going to remember the details of meetings, projects and actions without notes?

Leaders are always asking me why delegation doesn’t work for them? My answer, did your colleague take notes?

Taking notes is so important for all of us we all need to put information into our own words.

We know that self-generated material is better remembered and writing is a memory strategy.

Which reminds me!!!!!!

That forgetting can be infuriating, particularly when you’re trying to learn a new skill or absorb vital information. When you can’t recall the knowledge you need, stress can build and your confidence can take a knock.

German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus wanted to understand more about why we forget things and how to prevent it.

Ebbinghaus’s Forgetting Curve is an enduring model that demonstrates how memories are lost over time and what we can do to reinforce the things that we learn, so that we can remember them more effectively.

As you can see without reviewing or reinforcing our learning, our ability to retain the information plummets. For example, you may leave a webinar or meeting with your head full of new facts and figures, only to find that you can remember very little of it just hours later.

My top tip: take notes and keep going back to them to ensure that what you are learning is always in front of mind.

Now go and get that paper and pen and get scribbling.
