Ten tips for engaging content
When you’re sharing content, these are our top tips to make sure your writing is friendly, informative and easy to understand.
Lead with your main point
put it at the start so people know what you want to say
Break up big paragraphs
use short sections, subheadings and bullet points to
make your writing scannable
Use short sentences
watch out for anything over 25 words
Stick to the point
focus what you’re saying by making one point per
sentence
Use everyday words
simple versions of words are easier and more
engaging to read
Cut out filler
take out any words and phrases (or even sentences...) that aren’t adding to the meaning
Streamline details
don’t go overboard with proof points and statistics.
Choose one or two that are most valuable
Be personal
talk to your reader as ‘You’, and say “I” or “we” for writing about yourself (not your business name)
Ditch the jargon
don’t assume everyone knows jargon. Leave it out
unless it’s essential – and if it is, explain it
Read it back
before you submit, read your writing back out loud
to check it sounds natural
